GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior Matthew Sayre placed first in the 5000 at the Redhawk Invitational on Friday night to highlight the Knights' weekend of action.
Sayre topped a field that included NCAA Division I and Division II athletes to take first in the 5000, crossing the finish in 14:17.52, the fastest mark in NCAA Division III so far this season. Sayre ranks ahead of the second-fastest mark by more than 10 seconds.
On Saturday, Ben Timmons earned a victory in the 1500, crossing in 4:03.22 while Jason Rappazzo grabbed a win in the 400 with a first-place finish of 49.54. Frank Bubbico added a top finish in the 800, crossing the line in 1:58.79 and Jack Heraty won the 5000 with a time of 16:12.13. Josh Feldberg took first place in the triple jump with a leap of 13.28m while Jackson Hays flew 6.65m to take first in the long jump.
Geneseo will return to action on Friday, April 23, when they travel to Pittsford to compete in the St. John Fisher Cardinal Classic.
