Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The SUNY Geneseo men's basketball team dropped its season opener on Tuesday night at the University of Rochester, 68-56.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights got off to slow start as they struggled to find their rhythm offensively and trailed 27-13 almost 12 minutes into the first half. However, a three from junior forward Raymond Grabowski got Geneseo going and they began to climb back into the game.
- Later in the half, Grabowski drained another three to cut the lead to 31-27, and then a free throw from junior guard Harrison Dignan closed the gap to just three points at 31-28. Unfortunately, the Yellow Jackets defense was able to lock up the Knights for the remainder of the half and took a 39-28 lead into the locker room.
- Geneseo continued to battle to cut into the Rochester lead and a layup from senior forward Michael Gannon cut the score to 41-35 just over three minutes into the second half.
- The Knights struggled to find an answer to the Yellow Jackets defense throughout the rest of the game and couldn't get the score back to a one-possession game. Rochester went on to hold off Geneseo for a 68-56 victory.
QUICK FACTS
- Gannon led the Knights offensively with an impressive 26 points on 10-18 shooting from the field. He also shot well from beyond the arc, going 6-10.
- Dignan distributed the ball well for Geneseo, tallying a game-high 11 assists.
- The Knights were most effective from three-point range, shooting 12-27, compared to 6-19 by the Yellow Jackets.

Geneseo will have the weekend off to prepare for their next contest, when they travel to SUNY Canton on Nov. 16 at 6:00 p.m.
