Box Score PITTSBURGH, P.A. – The SUNY Geneseo women's volleyball team had their six-game win streak come to an end in the opening game of the Carnegie Mellon Invitational against Wittenberg on Friday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights had a 14-10 lead partway through the opening set, but the Tigers were able to settle in and get their offense and defense playing at a high level. Wittenberg went on to win the set 25-18.
- The Tigers kept their momentum rolling into the second frame and won 25-13, but the Knights weren't going away that easily and came out strong in the third set. Unfortunately, Wittenberg made a nine-point serving run in the middle of the set to lead them to the sweep.
- Geneseo struggled to find an answer for the Wittenberg attack as they hit .265 for the match and held the Knights to .070.
QUICK FACTS
- Geneseo entered Friday night's match with a six-consecutive wins, all against SUNYAC opponents.
- Senior setter Morgan Michalski will look to close the gap on 1,000 career assists in two matches tomorrow, as she currently sits at 937.
- Sophomore opposite Julia Wallace led the Knights in hitting percentage, tallying five kills and one error on 10 swings. Junior outside hitter Isabella Imbo recorded a team-high seven kills.
- Junior libero Emily Haber led the back line with 16 digs and continues to hold the top spot in the SUNYAC in digs per set at 5.44.
WHAT'S NEXT
Geneseo will take on Carnegie Mellon at 11 a.m. and Mary Washington at 3 p.m. to close out their regular season action. They will then face the winner of Brockport and Buffalo St. in the SUNYAC semifinals at Cortland on Nov. 5.
