GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo sophomore guard Elijah Wingfield contributed a career-high 21 points to lead the Knights past visiting New Paltz, 62-53, in SUNYAC action at Schrader Gymnasium, Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Junior forward Alex Merhige gave the Knights an early lead, 9-7, with a layup at the 14:25 mark in the first half, notching five of the Knights' first nine points of the contest.

• The visiting Hawks battled back to take a three-point advantage, 14-11, until back-to-back layups from first-year guard Aaron Davis gave Geneseo a 15-14 advantage with 5:37 remaining in the half.

• Junior forward Joseph Harclerode's made a pair of free throws with 1:40 remaining in the first half to give the Knights their biggest advantage of the half, 22-16, heading into halftime. 

• Wingfield scored 10 of Geneseo's first 12 points of the second half, highlighted by a three-pointer at the 12:44 mark, giving the Knights a 36-23 edge.

• First-year guard Aaron Davis nailed a three-pointer with 11:54 remaining to give the Knights their largest lead of the game, a 39-23 advantage.

• Sophomore forward Michaal Gannon tallied five of his seven points in the final three minutes of the ballgame as Geneseo coasted to the final buzzer.

QUICK FACTS

• Merhige finished with 12 points, swiped a season-high five steals and pulled nine rebounds, all on the defensive board.

• The Knights shot 5-for-9 from beyond the arc in the second half, good for a 55.6% clip.

• Geneseo totaled 12 steals, leading to 17 fast break points opposite New Paltz's three fast break points.

• Davis shot 4-for-7 from the field, matching a career-high 57.1% shooting performance, for 10 points off the bench.
