Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior guard Kevin Zabransky scored a team-high 13 points, but it was visiting Brockport earning the 79-67 victory over the Knights in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's basketball action, Friday.
Brockport (12-7, 7-5 SUNYAC) junior forward Cordell Torres scored 14 points to lead four Golden Eagles in double-figure scoring while the visitor's pressure defense forced the Knights (14-5, 9-3 SUNYAC) into tying a season-high with 23 turnovers.
"Overall, we needed to play more disciplined but Brockport did a good job of being physical and forcing us into some bad situations," said Geneseo head coach Steve Minton. "Credit them for playing a tough defensive game and not allowing our top scorers to get into any sort of rhythm."
Tied, 16-16, with 7:59 left in the first half, Brockport used a 10-3 spurt to take a 26-19 edge at 3:47. Zabransky connected on three three-point field goals in the final 2:50 as the Knights only trailed by two, 34-32, at halftime.
Brockport opened a 48-39 lead with 14:38 on the second half clock, but a corner three-pointer by Ringen followed by a three-point play by sophomore guard Jack Eisenberg on a coast-to-coast lay-up pulled Geneseo within three points, 48-45, with 13:54 to play in regulation.
However, the Golden Eagles would pull away, holding the Knights without a field goal for nearly six minutes while building a 64-50 edge with 7:46 on the clock.
A Zabransky three-pointer at 6:31 followed by a Ringen free-throw pulled the Knights within eight, 68-60, with 5:30 on the clock, but Brockport would go on to lead by as many as 14 down the stretch to earn the season split opposite Geneseo after falling at home, 60-58, on January 29th.
The Knights return to action on Tuesday (Feb. 9), hosting Buffalo State in a 7:30 p.m. tip-off at Schrader Gym.
