ROCHESTER, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo sophomore Alfredo Mazzuca took the crown in the 5,000-meter run and first-year Brett Humphries came in first in the high jump to lead the Knights to fifth place with 78 points at the Rochester Invitational, Thursday.
Brockport came in first with 140 points while Buffalo (121), Roberts Wesleyan (89) and Rochester (80) rounded out the top four.
Mazzuca finished in first place in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:33.97 while senior Matthew Herbert came in fifth (15:38.79), sophomore Travis Briggs took eighth 15:48.56 and senior Ryan Moynihan was ninth (15:54.57).
Geneseo swept the top three spots in the high jump as Humphries came in first (1.85m), senior Luke Taverne finished second (1.80m) and Phil Longo was third (1.80m). Longo also had a fifth-place finish in the triple jump (12.06m).
In the 400-meter relay, senior David Layman, sophomore Austin Donroe, junior Michael Segelin, and sophomore Connor Christian came in second and broke the school-record with a time of 42.65. Segelin also took fourth in the 200-meter dash (23.15) and seventh in the 100-meter dash (11.43).
In the 1,600-meter relay, the Knights came in fourth as Christian, senior Ben Schwartz, sophomore Brian Windisch and sophomore Nate Lo Parco crossed the finish line in a time of 3:32.45.
First-year Sam Heraghty had a sixth-place finish in the 10,000-meter run (34:37.68) while first-year Connor Pulvidente came in seventh (35:02.79).
First-year Kyle Chesterman captured fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:33.54) as first-year Dylan Switzer took seventh in the 400-meter hurdles (59.62).
Geneseo returns to competition next weekend at the Bison Outdoor Challenge hosted by Bucknell on Saturday and Sunday as well as the Roc City Invitational at Nazareth on Friday.
