WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - SUNY Geneseo first-year Isaac Garcia-Cassani finished an All-America third-place in the mile at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships, at the JDL Fastrack in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Garcia-Cassani crossed the finish line in a time of 4:12.12, less than two seconds behind St. Olaf's Paul Escher (4:10.19) and Washington & Lee's Ian McDonald (4:12.07) in the field of 10 finalists.
"Isaac ran a very smart final and did not panic when was boxed in the first half of the race," said assistant coach Mike Woods. "He really understands how to run the mile but being ready for anything in a big race is a prerequisite for success. He was ready today and, as a result, he is an All-American."
Garcia-Cassani advanced to Saturday's final after registering the the fifth-fastest time (4:14.78) out of 15 qualifiers in Friday's preliminary heats.
On the women's side, senior Keira Wood finished 10th (2:14.00) out of 17 runners in Friday's 800 meter prelims.
