Track & Field Earns 5th Place Finish in SUNYAC Championship

GENESEO, N.Y. – This weekend, the eight teams composing the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) competed in the Outdoor Championship Meet, hosted here at SUNY Geneseo. The Knights made a strong showing, resulting in a fifth place finish overall.

After the first day of competition on Friday, junior Phil Longo led the Knights in the field events with a third place finish in the long jump with a leap of 6.87 m (22'6.5''). On Saturday, Longo beat out the competition to win the men's high jump with a leap of 1.93 meters (6'4''). First-year Joanna Heath performed well in the jumps, taking eighth in the women's long jump with an ECAC-qualifying jump of 5.2 m (17'0.75''). She also came in third in the high jump (1.58 meters; 5'2.25'') and fourth in the triple jump (10.89 meters; 35'8.75'').

The Knights continued to perform well over the second day of competition, sweeping the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase. First-year Jacquelin Huben won the event, clocking a time of 11:18.53. First-year Sara Rosenzweig finished seconds later in second place (11:21.80), followed by sophomore Ashton Hughes in third (11:37.91).

Junior Keira Wood beat out the competition in the women's 1,500 meter-run, running a time of 4:39.7, to earn the first place finish. The Knights took second and third places in the women's 5,000 meters with junior Cassie Goodman finishing in 17:49.53, followed by teammate junior Joanna Castrogivanni in third (17:52.75).

In the hurdles, junior Allison Hoh took second place in the 400 meter hurdles (1:04.06) and sixth in the 100 meter hurdles (16:06). On the men's side, senior Tony George finished in fifth in the 400 meter hurdles (55.98).

On the men's side, first-year Chris Odin ran to a third place finish in the 800 meters (1:56.92). He was followed by junior Benjamin Schwartz who finished in fourth (1:57.39) and junior Ryan Moynihan who took sixth (2:00.78).

The Knights also performed well in the men's 5,000 meters, earning 20 points from the event. Sophomore Brendan Wortner won the race (15:06.45), and was followed by teammates sophomore Liam Cody in third (15:39.67), junior Ryan Moynihan in sixth (15:55.28) and junior Chaz Abad in eighth place (15:58.3).

Other noteworthy performances included first-year Ashlyne Sullivan's sixth place finish in the women's heptathlon with 2,686 points, while teammate first-year David Pollock finished in fourth place in the men's decathlon with 5,384 points.

Next weekend, the Knights will be in action again at the May Meet, hosted by SUNY Oneonta.
