GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo junior Phil Longo won the high jump while sophomore Brendan Wortner was crowned champion in the 5,000 meters to lead the Knigths to fifth place out of eight teams at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Geneseo.
After placing third in the long jump (22 feet, 6 1/2/6.87m) on Friday, Longo bested the field in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 4 inches (1.93m) on Saturday.
Wortner crossed the finish line in the 5,000 with a winning time of 15:06.45, leading four Knights that placed in top-eight. Sophomore Liam Cody finished third (15:39.67), followed by junior Ryan Moynihan in sixth (15:55.28) and junior Chaz Abad in eighth (15:58.3).
First-year Chris Odin ran to third place in the 800 meters (1:56.92) followed by junior Benjamin Schwartz in fourth (1:57.39) and junior Ryan Moynihan in sixth (2:00.78).
Other noteworthy performances included senior Tony George finishing fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (55.98) and first-year David Pollock placing fourth in the decathlon with 5,384 points.
Next weekend, the Knights will be in action again at the May Meet, hosted by SUNY Oneonta.
