Track & Field Competes At Princeton, Rochester Meets

PRINCETON, N.J./ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men and women's track and field teams kicked off their spring season with two meets this past weekend. On Saturday, the Knights wrapped up competition at the Sam Howell Invitational Meet, hosted by Princeton, while a contigent of Knights also competed at the University of Rochester Alumni Invitational held at the Fauver Stadium. 

At the Sam Howell Invitational, junior Joanna Castrogivanni brought the Knights a 24th place finish in the women's 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:36.16.

In the men's 1,500 meters, senior Thomas Clark finished 25th with a time of 4:06.05. 

Junior Benjamin Schwartz and first-year Chris Odin finished less than a second apart in the men's 800 meters, finishing in 1:57.69 and 1:57.85 respectively for 39th and 41st places. 

The track and field teams continued the strong performances on Sunday at the Alumni Invitational.

On the men's side, first-year Connor Christian took second place in the 400 meters with a time of 51.80. In the 1,500-meter run, junior Ryan Moynihan placed fourth, running a time of 4:03.4. Junior Tony George took second in the 400-meter hurdles (57.42). In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, first-year John Panus claimed second (9:54.09), while sophomore Jack Sullivan finished moments later in fifth (10:14.16). In the 10,000 meters, junior Anthony Pivarunas finished fifth with a time of 33:38.36.

The women's team also had a strong showing. Geneseo took first and second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with first-year Sara Rosenzweig running to a first-place finish with a time of 11:29.35, while teammate sophomore Ashton Hughes finished in second (11:39.85).

First year Marissa Bellusci ran a time of 4:52.13 in the 1,500 meters, good for a fifth-place finish.  First-year Bri Colello took eighth in the 100-meter hurdles (16.66). Senior DianaDorothy Yanoti finished in fifth in the triple jump with a jump of 10.67 meters.

Next week, the Knights will travel to Lewisburg, Pa. to compete in the Bison Outdoor Classic, hosted by Bucknell.
