Track & Field Competes At Rochester Spring Invitational

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The SUNY Geneseo track & field team competed at the Spring Invitational, hosted by the University of Rochester on Saturday at Fauver Stadium.

"These were some great final times," said head coach Dave Prevosti. "I'm pleased with the position the team is in at this stage in the season."

On the men's side, junior Chaz Abad logged a runner-up finish in the 5,000 (15:45.43), while first-year Chris Odin finished second in the 800 (1:57.09), followed by sophomore Nate Lo Parco in fourth (1:58.18). 

First-year Bayley Zubler placed third in the 3,000 steeplechase (10:08.00), while classmate Andrew Alzmamn finished fourth in the 110 hurdles (17.56). Sophomore Michael Segelin ran to fourth place in the 100 (11.32). 

For the women, first-year Kelly Flanagan finished first in the 5,000 meters (18:58.71), leading a sweep of the top-four places that included sophomore Sarah Anstett (19:07.34) in second, first-year Morgan Meaney (19:28.36) in third and first-year Mary Carroll (19:47.73) in fourth 

Junior Blair Wigsten claimed first place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, running a time of 12:39.41, while first-year Mackenzie Ross ran to a second-place finish in the 800 (2:25.39) followed closely by sophomore Rachel Bruce (2:26.53) in third.

Sophomore Kylie Ryan finished runner-up in the 400 hurdles (1:09.07), while sophomore Natalie Ruiz ran to fourth-place in the 400 (1:05.21) and sophomore Winny Chen was fourth in the 1,500 (4:51.59)

In the field events, first-year Joanna Heath won the triple jump with a bound of 35 feet, 6 3/4 inches (10.84 meters), while senior Danelle Turney took fourth in the shot put with a throw of 32 feet, 1 inch (9.78 meters). First-year Ashlyne Sullivan placed fourth in the high jump (4-9, 1.45m)

The Knights are set to host the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships next Friday and Saturday.
