BOSTON – This weekend, a select group of the SUNY Geneseo track & field team travelled to Boston to compete in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Indoor Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center.
"Overall it was a great trip and Geneseo represented the college very well," said head coach Dave Prevosti. "I am very proud of them for a great season. Spirits are high and we are in a good place to continue to move the program forward."
Senior Thomas Clark gave the Knights a strong start, taking first place in the men's 5,000-meter run (14:49.52) on Friday. Junior Joanna Castrogivanni finished sixth in the women's 5,000 meters (17:55.06). Behind her was teammate junior Alyssa Knott who took eighth in the same event (18:03.73).
In the first stages of the men's heptathlon, sophomore Aidan Fullerton won the men's long jump (6.66 meters), and came in sixth in the men's shot put (11.58 meters), fourth in men's long jump (1.84 meters) and 11th in the 60-meter dash (7.52 seconds), but was scratched on the second day of competition due to illness.
In the women's 4x200 meter relay, junior Kristen Gottstine, senior Samantha Hudson, first-year Bri Colello, and junior Allison Hoh set a new Geneseo record with a time of 1:47.61, and placing 23rd overall.
In men's long jump, first-year David Pollock placed third (6.83 meters). Junior Keira Wood finished sixth in the women's 800 meter with a time of 2:15.73. Competing against some of the country's top high jumpers, first-year Joanna Heath placed sixth in women's high jump (1.69 meters).
Those Knights that qualify will head next to Lincoln, Nebraska next weekend for the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships.
