BROCKPORT, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo senior Thomas Clark won individual championships in the mile and the 3,000 meters to lead the Knights to fourth-place finish out of eight teams at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's Track & Field Championships, Saturday at the Brockport Special Events & Recreation Center.
Buffalo State won the team title with 130 points, followed by Oneonta (122), Cortland (106), Geneseo (94) and Brockport (85.5) to round out the top-five team scores.
Clark crossed the finish line in the mile with a winning time of 4:17.14, before clocking a facility-record 8:34.92 time to win the 3,000. Both times were also ECAC Championship-qualifying times.
Junior Cohen Miles-Rath finished first in the 5,000-meter run (14:48.13), followed by junior Chaz Abad in seventh (15:33.23). Miles-Rath's time set a facility record and was an ECAC Championship qualifying performance.
Three Knights placed in the high jump. Sophomore Aidan Fullerton won the individual championship, followed by junior Luke Taverne in second. Both finished with a jump of 6-6 (1.98m), but Fullerton needed one less attempt to take first. Junior Phil Longo added a fourth-place effort (6-4, 1.93). Fullerton and Tavern both qualified for the ECAC Championships with their finishes.
Sophomore Brendan Wortner placed fourth in the 3,000 (8:50.11), while first-year Travis Briggs finished fifth (4:22.38) in the mile. Both times were ECAC Championship qualifying times.
Junior Benjamin Schwartz led three Knights that placed in the 800 with a fourth-place clocking of 1:55.81. Senior Tony George (1:57.09) and junior Colby Burke (1:57.48) finished sixth and eighth, respectively as all three qualified for the ECAC Championships with their times.
Three Knights finished in the top-eight of the long jump. Fullerton finished fifth (6.94m/22-9 1/4), followed by first-year David Pollock (6.89m/22-7 1/4) in sixth and Longo (6.89m/22-7 1/4) in seventh.
Geneseo's distance medley relay team, made up of first-year Brian Windisch, sophomore Alex Raymond, Briggs and first-year Chris Odin, finished second (10:32.09).
