BROCKPORT, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo junior Nate Lo Parco won the 1,000 meters to lead the Knights to second place out of 10 teams at the Early Season Invitational, Saturday, hosted by Brockport.
The host Golden Eagles won the meet with 198.50, followed by the Knights (113), Mansfield (60.5), Roberts Wesleyan (52) and RIT (51) for the top-five team scores.
LoParco crossed the finish line with a winning time of 2:37.93, and was followed closely by first-year Cody Orton in third place (2:39.75). Orton was also the first collegiate finisher in the 5,000, placing third (15:54.16).
Junior Michael Segelin finished second in the 300 (36.86) with the second-fastest time in program history, and also finished runner-up in the 60-meter finals with a 7.19 clocking after posting a 7.17 in the prelims. Sophomore Connor Christian was right behind in the 300 (37.09), with a third-place effort.
Sophomore Chris Odin placed third in the mile (4:29.90).
In the field events, junior Aidan Fullerton placed second in the long jump (22 feet, 1 inch, 6.73m), followed by senior Phil Longo in fourth (21-6, 6.55m). Longo also placed fourth in the high jump (6-2, 1.88m). Sophomore Aaron Murphy lept to third in the triple jump (43-5 1/4, 13.24m).
Geneseo is off until January 17 when the Knights will return from winter break to compete at the RIT Invitational.
