Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior forward Kayla DeAngelis scored a career-high four goals, including three-straight in the second half, and assisted another to lead the Knights to a 6-4 upset of No. 18 Rochester, Saturday afternoon, at Fauver Stadium.
DeAngelis' nine total points eclipsed the Knights' single-game record of eight scored by Leslie Howlett versus Brockport during the 2001 season. It was also only the second time a Geneseo player had scored four goals in one game.
Geneseo (12-6) built a 2-0 lead in the first 20 minutes on goals by DeAngelis and sophomore forward Sarah Malinak that were both assisted by senior midfielder Kerry Hosford.
Rochester would answer with a 3-0 run during a 16-minute span into the second half to take a 3-2 lead at the 36:04 mark. DeAngelis would respond with three goals in the next nine minutes to put the visitors back in the lead for good, 5-3, with just over 20 minutes to play.
Senor back Bridget McGovern would deflect home a shot by DeAngelis from the top of the circle to give the Knights a three-goal advantage in the 55th minute.
Rochester (14-5) would find the net on a deflected shot in the 69th minute, but Geneseo (12-6) would hold on for their fourth straight victory.
Following a trip to Ithaca on Tuesday (Nov. 5) to wrap up the regular season, the Knights will take on New Paltz on Friday (Nov. 8) in the semifinals of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament, hosted by Cortland. Second-seeded Geneseo will take on the third-seeded Hawks at 1:30 p.m., preceded by top-seeded Cortland taking on fourth-seeded Oneonta at 11:00 a.m. The two winners will play for the championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 1:30 p.m.
