GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's volleyball team closed out the Heron Invitational on Saturday, falling to Wesleyan (CT) in straight sets, 3-0. The Knights now hold a 1-2 record on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Wesleyan built an early cushion behind a strong hitting effort from its outside attack, and despite a late push from Kate Barba and McKenna Callari that pulled Geneseo within 22-14, the Cardinals closed out the opener 25-16.
- The second set stayed tight into the teens, with Zooey Gagnier serving an ace and adding a pair of kills to keep Geneseo within 16-13, but Wesleyan closed the set on a 9-1 run to win 25-14.
- Wesleyan carried its momentum into the third, opening on an 8-3 run and pulling away for good behind its middle blockers, closing out the sweep 25-9. Cory Elder recorded a kill and a block in the set for the Knights.
QUICK FACTS:
- Kate Barba led the Knights with five kills.
- Molly McKinney paced the offense with 11 assists and also led the defense with six digs.
- Zooey Gagnier recorded two of Geneseo's three service aces on the day.
