GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo field hockey team posted its most lopsided win of the season on Wednesday, routing Oswego 7-0 at College Stadium. The Knights improve to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in Empire 8 play.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Geneseo wasted no time getting on the board, as Aubree Wenner scored her first goal of the season off a feed from Emma Landers just 3:26 into the game to make it 1-0.
- The Knights doubled their lead minutes later, with Halle Senfield converting an Ava Harman assist to push the score to 2-0.
- Geneseo poured in three more goals over a four-minute span in the second quarter — Senfield struck again off an Ella Greico assist to make it 3-0, Kyra Giannelli followed with a goal assisted by Wenner to make it 4-0, and Greico capped the half-ending flurry with an unassisted goal to put Geneseo up 5-0 at the break.
- Greico added her second goal of the game in the third quarter to extend the lead to 6-0, and Molly Orth capped the scoring in the fourth quarter to make it 7-0.
- Geneseo dominated from start to finish, out-shooting Oswego 25-1 and holding a 13-0 edge in penalty corners, while a trio of Geneseo goalkeepers combined for the shutout.
QUICK FACTS:
- Greico led all scorers with two goals and an assist, and has now tied the program record for career goals with 55.
- Giannelli led the team with 13 penalty corner opportunities drawn, and Bridget Schafer, Alessandra Burke, and Zoe Saliani split time in net to preserve the shutout.
- The win is Geneseo's largest margin of victory this season, surpassing the 5-0 win over St. John Fisher.
