GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo field hockey team improved to 2-0 in Empire 8 play on Saturday, cruising to a 5-0 shutout win over St. John Fisher in Rochester. The Knights move to 5-3 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Geneseo controlled play from the outset, out-shooting St. John Fisher 3-1 in the opening quarter, though the score remained scoreless through the first half despite six penalty corners for the Knights.
• Geneseo finally broke through late in the third quarter, as Halle Senfield scored her first goal of the season to make it 1-0.
• The Knights exploded for four goals in the fourth quarter, starting with Aubree Wenner converting a Kyra Giannelli assist to make it 2-0, followed just 20 seconds later by Ava Harman scoring to push the lead to 3-0.
• Wenner added her second of the game a few minutes later, this time off a Harman assist, to make it 4-0, before Olivia Bottoni capped the scoring late in the frame to close out the 5-0 win.
• Geneseo dominated the shot chart all afternoon, finishing with a 23-2 advantage in shots and an 11-2 edge in penalty corners, while Bridget Schafer earned the shutout with a clean sheet in net.

QUICK FACTS:

• Wenner led Geneseo with two goals, while Senfield, Harman, and Bottoni each added one; Giannelli and Harman each tallied an assist.
• Schafer recorded the shutout, needing no saves in 60 minutes of work as St. John Fisher managed just two shots.
• The win matched Geneseo's largest margin of victory this season, as both Empire 8 wins have come with a 5-0 score.
