GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo field hockey team dropped a defensive battle at home on Wednesday, falling 1-0 to Rochester at College Stadium. The loss moves the Knights to 4-3 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Neither team could find the net through the first two quarters, as Rochester held a wide edge in penalty corners and shots but was turned away repeatedly by Bridget Schafer in the Geneseo net.
- Rochester finally broke through early in the third quarter, scoring off a tough cross to take a 1-0 lead.
- Geneseo had a chance to answer minutes later on a penalty stroke, but the attempt was turned aside, keeping the score at 1-0.
- The Knights pushed for the equalizer over the final stretch, but the Rochester defense and goalkeeping held firm to close out the shutout win.
- Rochester finished with a 10-7 advantage in shots and an 11-2 edge in penalty corners, while Schafer made two saves in the loss.
