Women's Soccer Ties Utica 1-1

UTICA, NY: The SUNY Geneseo women's soccer team opened their Empire 8 conference play with a tie against the Utica Pioneers. The Knights now sit at 0-0-1 in conference play and 2-2-2 overall record.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The game remained scoreless through much of the first half despite the Knights posting nine shots to the Pioneers one. Utica broke the stalemate in the 41st minute to take a one goal lead over the Knights at halftime.
  • Geneseo continued to attack hard in the second half, putting up two more shots in the opening.
  • In the 74th minute, Ashley Pawelczyk ripped a shot from 25 yards out to tie the game up. The Knights continued to battle with four more shots on net but were unable to get one past the goalie and recorded a draw against Utica. 
QUICK FACTS:
  • Ashley Pawelczyk netted her third goal of the season and has totaled six points so far this season.
  • The Knights outshot Utica 19-7, led by Ella Yartym with six.
