Arraiano Lifts Men's Soccer To First Empire 8 Win Over Utica

GENESEO, NY: The SUNY Geneseo men's soccer team opened their conference play this afternoon with a 1-0 win over the Utica Pioneers. The Knights now have a 1-0-0 record in Empire 8 play and a 4-2-1 record on the season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The teams kept it close throughout the first half, but Kyle Arraiano gave the Knights a 1-0 lead in the 43rd minute with a header to the top right corner of the net.
  • Utica put the pressure on early in the second half trying to even the score. Max Crothall made a huge save, tipping a high arching ball over the crossbar to maintain the Knights lead.
  • Geneseo flipped the script, posting seven more shots, with Jace DiPalo and Michael Ruggiero each narrowly missing the net. The Knights were unwavering and came out victorious over the Pioneers, winning 1-0.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Kyle Arraiano scored the team's lone goal. This marks Arraiano's first goal of the season and third career.
  • Max Crothall made a season high seven saves in net for his fourth win and first shutout of the year.
  • The Knights have faced the Pioneers four times in the last two years, posting a 3-0-1 record.
