Petroski's First Career No-Hitter in Game One Highlights Softballs Sweep Against Elmira

GENESEO, NY: The SUNY Geneseo softball team swept Elmira on Thursday afternoon, highlighted by a 7-0 shutout in game one and an 11-5 win in game two. Gabriella Petroski dominated in the circle with a seven-inning no-hitter, marking the player since 2019 to achieve this statistical rarity. With the wins, Geneseo improves to 22-9 overall and 13-3 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Geneseo opened the scoring in the third inning on an RBI double from Emily Sylvanus. The Knights added two more in the fourth, with Griffin launching a two-run home run.
  • Geneseo continued to build its lead as Ray Schumacher delivered an RBI double to left-center, scoring Brooke Fraas. The Knights tacked on three more runs in the sixth, while Petroski shut down Elmira to secure a 7-0 shutout in game one.
  • Elmira found its offense early in game two, scoring on an RBI single in the first. Geneseo answered right back with three runs in the bottom of the first, then added four more in the second, fueled by a three-run blast from Griffin.
  • Elmira didn't go away quietly, scoring a combined four runs on three hits in the third and fourth innings. Geneseo scored a run of its own in the fourth on an RBI double from Lauren Babich, making the score 8-5.
  • The Knights scored another three runs in the sixth to put the game out of reach, securing a 11-5 victory over the Soaring Eagles.

QUICK FACTS:
  • Petroski picked up her eleventh win on the mound and tossed her first career no-hitter, striking out a career-high 16, and joins and elite group of 16 others in program history who have achieved this feat.
  • Babich recorded two doubles and a triple in game two, marking her first three extra-base hit performance of the season.
  • Griffin tallied her third multi-home run outing of the season, bringing her total to a team-leading six home runs.
