Women's Lacrosse Cruises Past Alfred 18-1

ALFRED, NY: The SUNY Geneseo women's lacrosse team came out victorious over Alfred University 18-1. Geneseo advances to 9-7 on the season and 7-1 in Empire 8 conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Knights came out hot, putting up nine goals in the first quarter. Natalie Long had a great start to the game, scoring hattrick and two assists   
  • Cara Calicchia recorded a hattrick in the second quarter to give the Knights a 13-0 lead at halftime, while Lila Warner, Abigail Delaney and Katie Rajkowski added a goal of their own.
  • Waner, Delaney and Calicchia added three more in the third to extend their lead. Alfred was able tally a goal early in the fourth, but the Knights answered back with two more from Calicchia and Olivia Luchetti, securing the 18-1 win over the Saxons.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Cara Calicchia had a huge day, leading the Knights with five goals and two assists.
  • The Knights went 18-21 on draw controls, with Olivia Luchetti picking up 10 wins.
  • Rosemary Mahoney tallied four points against the Saxons and leads the team with 52 this season from 23 goals and 29 assists. Mahoney also leads the Empire 8 with 1.81 assists per game.

Geneseo travels to Utica on Saturday, April 25th for their final game of the regular season.
