GENESEO, N.Y. - On Tuesday afternoon, the SUNY Geneseo softball team swept Brockport behind strong performances in the circle from
Gabriella Petroski and
Nevaeh Ross. Across 14 innings, the duo allowed just seven combined hits while recording 15 strikeouts in back-to-back shutouts. Geneseo now holds a 20-9 overall record with an 11-3 mark in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPPENED:
- In game one, neither team could score through six innings. In the bottom of the seventh, Gabriella Smith singled past second base and Alyssa Siegmann then laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Smith into scoring position. Brooke Fraas followed with an RBI single up the middle, driving in Smith to give Geneseo a 1-0 shutout in the opener.
- In the second game, Geneseo plated two runs early to set the tone. They added two more in the fourth, as Ross connected on a hard-hit two RBI single past shortstop.
- In the fifth, Bella Nadzan and Molly Griffin delivered back-to-back RBI singles to extend the lead. Brockport couldn't generate any offensive momentum, as Geneseo secured a 6-0 victory.
QUICK FACTS:
- Petroski and Ross continued their dominance in recent conference games, as Ross now has two consecutive complete game shutouts, and Petroski has allowed just one run over the last 13 innings.
- Nadzan, Ross, and Molly Griffin recorded two RBIs each in the second game.
- Geneseo totaled five stolen bases in game two.
