ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo softball team split a doubleheader against St. John Fisher on Saturday afternoon. The Knights dropped a tight 1-0 contest in the first game before bouncing back with a 7-0 shutout in game two with sophomore pitcher
Nevaeh Ross only allowing one hit and driving in two runs of her own. Geneseo is now 18-9 overall with a 9-3 mark in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In game one, both pitchers threw lights out through five innings until the Cardinals broke through with a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth. Although the Knights managed five hits they couldn't push a run across, dropping the opener 1-0.
- Game two was scoreless through four until the Knights plated two runs in the top of the fifth. Emily Sylvanus notched an RBI single to get things rolling and Ray Schumacher followed with a solo blast to left field.
- Geneseo added five more runs in the seventh, highlighted by back-to-back-to-back RBI singles from Molly Griffin, Bella Nadzan, and Nevaeh Ross. Shortly after, Sylvanus drew a two-out walk with the bases loaded to bring home Nadzan.
- Ross continued to completely lock up the Cardinals bats, and closed out the 7-0 win.
QUICK FACTS:
- Ross delivered a shutout from the mound in game two, tossing 7.0 scoreless innings while only allowing one hit. Petroski threw all six innings in game one, only allowing the one earned run.
- Griffin and Nadzan both went 3-for-4 in game two with a combined two RBIs and two runs scored.
