Petroski Tallies 200th Career Strikeout and Homers as Knights Sweep Nazareth

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo softball team swept Nazareth on Friday afternoon, securing a 9-1 victory in game one and a 10-2 win in game two. Gabriella Petroski did damage on both ends of the field, recording her 200th career strikeout in the circle and launching a three-run homer in game one. With the wins, Geneseo moves to 17-8 overall and 8-2 in conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Nazareth struck first in game one, scoring a run in the opening inning. Geneseo answered in the second when Lauren Bieniek crushed a three-run homer to dead center, traveling 220 feet.
  • After a silent two innings, Geneseo scored five more runs in the fifth. Bieniek started the surge with an RBI single and Gabriella Smith followed with a sacrifice fly to right field. Petroski capped the inning with a three-run blast to give the Knights a 8-1 lead.
  • The Knights added another run in the sixth on an RBI double to left center from Lauren Babich. The game ended there due to the run rule, as Geneseo held an eight-run lead after five innings, securing a 9-1 win on 12 hits.
  • In game two, Nazareth jumped ahead with a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Geneseo responded in the bottom of the inning, scoring three runs on four hits to take a 3-2 advantage.
  • The Knights stayed in control as the game continued. Babich ripped her second RBI double of the day in the third to put the Knights up 4-2. Geneseo then plated a combined six runs in the fourth and fifth inning to put the game out of reach. The Knights completed the sweep with a 10-2 win in game two.
WHAT'S NEXT:
  • Petroski highlighted the game by completing her 200th career strikeout, becoming just the 11th player in program history to accomplish the feat.
  • Emily Sylvanus finished 3-for-3 in game one, notching two RBIs and scoring a run.
  • Babich was dominant in the box, going 4-for-6 on the day with a combined three RBIs.
  • Navaeh Ross threw all five innings in game two, only allowing four hits to earn the win.
