ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's lacrosse team couldn't pull out a win at the University of Rochester on Saturday evening, falling 13-11. The Knights move to 3-5 overall while Rochester improves to 6-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- A first quarter goal from Katie Rajkowski off a pass from Lila Warner put Geneseo on the board, but they found themselves facing an early 4-1 deficit in the second quarter. Back-to-back goals by Grace Reyna within forty seconds flipped the momentum back in the Knights favor, with Rosemary Mahoney assisting on the first.
- Trailing 6-4 in the second quarter, Natalie long and Rajkowski scored the last two goals of the half to tie the game at 6-6.
- Geneseo took its first lead of the game early in the third quarter, with Rajkowski and Reyna scoring to make it an 8-7 lead. Reyna then helped the Knights maintain the lead heading to the final quarter, scoring the last goal with six minutes left to make it 9-8.
- The Yellowjackets answered back early in the fourth, scoring three unanswered goals to take an 11-9 lead. Reyna brought Geneseo back within one, but Rochester was able to hold on for the 13-11 win.
QUICK FACTS:
- Reyna scored five goals to lead the offensive efforts, while Rajkowski scored four times with Mahoney adding four assists.
- Rajkowski led the team with five draw controls, while Mahoney tallied six caused turnovers and picked up eight ground balls.
