Softballl Splits Day Three Against Wisconsin-Stout and Plymouth State

Geneseo Softball continued their Florida trip today with a pair of games. In the first game of the day they would fall to University of Wisconsin Stout 12-2 in five innings. The Knights bounced back in the second game to capture a win over Plymouth State University with a final score of 3-2 in ten innings.

How it Happened:

  • Geneseo opened their game against Wis. Stout with a two-run lead, staring with Ray Schumacher sending a double to right center from Ray Schumacher scoring Emily Sylvanus. To follow that up, Molly Griffin roped a single to right field to score Schumacher to give the Knights a 2-0 lead.
  • Despite their best efforts, the Knights were unable to continue their momentum through the rest of the game, with Wis. Stout scoring 12 runs over the course of the game and holding Geneseo to only two.

  • The Knights second game against Plymouth State proved to be a battle, with both teams keeping the game scoreless through seven innings, with Nevaeh Ross on fire on the mount with seven shutout innings.
  • Jane Riley got the Knights their first run in the top of the 8th off a sacrifice fly from Lauren Babich to right field. Plymouth State was able to tally a run of their own in the bottom of the 8th to keep the game in extra innings.

  • In the top of tenth inning, Molly Griffin would drive in Emily Sylvanus with a sacrifice fly to re-gain the lead. Lauren Babich would follow that up with a triple to right field scoring Ray Schumacher to give the Knights a 3-1 lead. Nevaeh Ross was able to hold Plymouth State in the bottom of the tenth to give the Knights the 3-2 victory and improve to 4-3 on the season.

QUICK FACTS:

  • Emily Sylvanus has a great day at the plate leading the team with four hits and getting on base six times. Brooke Fraas also had a good day contributing 3 hits.
  • Neveah Ross led the Knights to victory going ten innings allowing two earned runs and two strikeouts.

The Knights will play a pair of games tomorrow as they continue their Florida trip against William Patterson University and Buffalo State. The games are at 1:30 p.m. and 3:45 p.m.
