Men's Lacrosse Earns Thrilling Win At St. Mary's, 17-16

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's lacrosse team came out with a big come from behind win this evening against St. Mary's (Md.) 17-16. After trailing 15-12 in the fourth quarter, the Knights scored five of the last six goals to move to 3-3 on the season with the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Ryan Trebing, Aksel Stanat, and Aidan Crane scored three unanswered goals to give the Knights a 6-5 lead with 14:16 left in the second quarter.
  • After St. Mary's scored two unanswered goals, Ronnie Trebing scored two straight to give the Knights an 8-7 lead with 5:44 remaining in the second. Both teams traded goals for the rest of the half, which would end with the Knights leading 10-9.
  • The Knights would extend their lead following an early goal from St. Mary's with Jake Starkey and Ronnie Trebing tallying goals. However, St. Mary's would follow this up by scoring five unanswered goals. The Knights would go down 15-12 early in the 4th quarter.
  • With the help of Ryan Trebing scoring three goals in the 4th quarter, the Knights would outscore St.Mary's 5-1 in the last 14 minutes of the game, giving the Knights a 17-16 victory.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Ryan Trebing had a big game scoring five goals including three in the 4th quarter. Ronnie Trebing joined him in leading the offensive effort, as they both tallied seven points.
  • Aksel Stanat also contributed three goals and an assist, while Jacob Pensabene added two goals and two assists.
  • Ben Bradshaw tallied 14 saves in goal to get the win, including a save in the final minute to secure the win.
  • Jake Starkey led the team with six ground balls, including going 9-17 on faceoffs.
