Women's Basketball Falls at Nazareth

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's basketball team dropped a 68-56 decision to Nazareth on Saturday afternoon. The Knights now hold a 15-7 overall record and are 9-4 in conference action.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Geneseo stayed within a few points of Nazareth early in the first quarter before Audrey Hintz drove to the basket for a layup that tied the game at 10. With under a minute remaining, Nazareth knocked down a jumper to regain the lead and went into the second quarter with a 12-10 advantage over the Knights.
  • Nazareth pulled away in the second quarter, outscoring Geneseo 22-15. Late free throws from Kristin Suydam and Maggie McGrane helped keep the Knights within striking distance, as they trailed 34-25 at the half.
  • The Knights opened the third quarter with back-to-back layups in the paint from McGrane and Eva Elliot. Despite Nazareth's continued offensive pressure, Geneseo cut the deficit to three at 44-41. The Golden Flyers responded with a late surge and carried a 51-43 lead into the fourth quarter.
  • Nazareth maintained its advantage throughout the final quarter and Geneseo was unable to mount a comeback, falling 68-56.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Grace Galgano delivered a dominant performance with 21 points, bringing her season total to a team-leading 258. 
  • McGrane added 14 points and was efficient from long range, shooting a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc and 5-for-8 from the field.
  • Sofia Vasselman collected a team-high nine rebounds (four offensive, five defensive).
