ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's basketball team defeated St. John Fisher on Friday evening, 63-52. Highlighting the win was junior forward
Josh Garelle, who became the 28th player in program history to reach the 1,000 career points milestone. With the win, the Knights move to 13-8 overall and 9-3 in Empire 8 action.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Knights got off to a slow start in the game, trailing 9-2 in the first three minutes of the game. The Knights were able to quickly respond, behind a pair of layups from Garelle and a three from Colin Gentile, they quickly tied the score at 9-9.
- Midway through the first half, Kaden Durham subbed into the game and made a layup and a dunk to keep the score close and spark the Knights offense. Robert Pericolosi also made some big plays in the closing minutes of the first half, picking up three rebounds, two points, and an assist as the Knights only trailed by one, 29-28, at the half.
- Geneseo quickly took a slim lead in the second half, but they were able to begin to pull away as the half went on. With six minutes to go, Pericolosi grabbed an offensive board and made the put back, then on the ensuing possession Landon Brunken drained a three to give the Knights their biggest lead of the game at 54-45.
- The Knights defense continued to stifle the Cardinals down the stretch, and with 20 seconds left to play a pair of free throws by Garelle marked his 1,000th career point and helped them ice the game.
QUICK FACTS:
