Men's Basketball Falls In Overtime At Brockport

GENESEO, N.Y.- The SUNY Geneseo men's basketball team came up short in an overtime contest at Brockport on Tuesday evening, falling 83-77. The Knights dip to 12-8 overall and 8-3 in the Empire 8.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Knights came out hot on offense, with Jackson Casey draining back-to-back three's then Justin Yearwood knocking one down following a steal to make it 13-5 just three minutes into the action. Casey added another three to keep the lead at eight points, but the Golden Eagles fought back and took a 21-20 lead midway through the half.
  • Brockport had earned a three-point lead with a minute on the clock, but a deep three from Robert Pericolosi tied the score at 40 with 50 seconds left. As the half wound down, Casey came up with a big steal at only five seconds on the clock, leading to a last second layup by Trevor Hofer to give the Knights the two-point lead at the break.
  • Geneseo kept the momentum going early in the second half, as a layup from Hofer put them ahead 54-46 six minutes into the second half. Brockport had the answer once again, and took a 70-65 lead with three minutes to go. The Knights defense stepped up to close out regulation, limiting the Golden Eagles to just two more points as they were able to force overtime after a pair of free throws from Josh Garelle.
  • Geneseo got down early in overtime, and couldn't find a way to knock the tough shots late that they needed to earn their third overtime win of the season.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Pericolosi recorded a double-double for the Knights, posting 11 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Garelle led the offensive effort with 19 points and nine boards, while Yearwood recorded nine rebounds as well with 13 points.

Geneseo will head to St. John Fisher on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
