Hockey Caps Off Regular Season With 5-2 Win Over Brockport

BROCKPORT NY: The No. 10 SUNY Geneseo men's hockey team defeated the Brockport Golden Eagles 5-2 in their final game of the regular season. Seniors Alex Dameski and Dakota Zarudny led the team with two goals each, moving the Knights to 17-6-1 overall with a UCHC conference record of 13-4-0, while dropping Brockport to 10-15-0 and 6-10-0 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Knights capitalized on an early powerplay in the first period, after Dakota Zarudny picked up the rebound from Payne Gatewood's shot at 17:47 for a 1-0 lead. Brockport had a powerplay goal of their own halfway through the first to tie the game 1-1.
  • Alex Dameski tallied his first goal of the night three minutes into the second period after Payne Gatwood saw the wide-open Dameski in the middle of the ice. Dameski went 1-on-1 Brockport's goalie, ripping a wrist shot glove side to make it 2-1. The Golden Eagles had another power-play goal two minutes later, but Dameski answered back, going top shelf and sending the water bottle flying for his second goal of the game at 9:29.
  • Geneseo extended their lead with 5:20 left in the third with another goal from Zarudny. Sterling Wolters made a great play to keep the puck in the zone and connected with Zarudny, who ripped a shot off the far post and in to make it 4-2.
  • The Knights called game with a short-handed goal in the final minutes of play.  Carter Diceman picked up a bad pass in the Brockport zone and put one on net and Filip Wiberg was able to jam it home after a scramble in front of the goal. The Knights come away with the 5-2 won over the Golden Eagles, entering the post season with a record of 17-6-1 overall and UCHC conference record of 13-4-0.
