GENESEO, NY: The SUNY Geneseo men's hockey team completed the weekend swept against the Utica Pioneers, winning 4-3 in OT.
Danny Bagnole scored the game-winning-goal, marking his second of the season. The Knights move to 16-6-1 overall and a UCHC record of 12-3-0 while the Pioneers fall to 16-7-0 and 12-2-0 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Alex Dameski opened the scoring for the Knights at 16:42, intercepting a pass from Utica in their own zone and sending it through the goalies legs to make it 1-0.
- The Knights followed it with a second goal with eight minutes left to play. Jack McDonald ripped one from the middle of the zone and Danny Bagnole was there to pick up the rebound, tapping it in at the post to extend the Knights lead to 2-0. Utica got on the board late in the period, and trailed the Knights 2-1 entering the second.
- The second period looked to be a stalemate, but Utica added another with a minute remaining, tying it at 2-2 with 20 minutes left to play.
- Geneseo took the 3-2 lead early in the third after Payne Gatewood send a quick wrist shot sailing above the goalie's blocker, with the assists coming from Dameski and Carter Diceman. Utica managed to tie it up with five minutes left to play, sending the Knights into OT.
- The Knights took control during the extra time, putting up three more shots before Bagnole went bar-down to win the game, with Jacob Torger and Filip Wiberg on the assist. The Knights took home their second win of the weekend against Utica and their sixth in the last seven match-ups against the Pioneers.
