GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's basketball team defeated SUNY Poly on Saturday afternoon, 75-71. The Knights honored their lone senior,
Drew Morrow, with a brief pre-game ceremony as the victory improves Geneseo's record to 15-9 overall and 11-4 in Empire 8 play.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Knights found themselves in a big hole early, opening the game with a 12-0 deficit. However, the Knights quickly worked their way back into the game, with Jackson Casey knocking down a jumper to cut the lead down to one point halfway through the first half at 22-21.
- The Wildcats managed to bring their lead back up to nine points, but once again the Knights had the answer and a put-back layup from Josh Garelle with 30 seconds left gave Geneseo its first lead of the game heading into halftime.
- The Knights kept the momentum going to start the second half, going ahead by seven points after a bucket from Robert Pericolosi. This time, Poly was able to answer back and tie the game at 56 with nine minutes left on the clock.
- Trailing by one point with two minutes left, Garelle knocked down a tough jump shot in the paint to regain the lead, then after the Wildcats drained two free throws, Colin Gentile came up with the clutch layup to put the Knights back on top. Leading by one point with 11 seconds left, Geneseo collapsed the paint on Poly's final play and Pericolosi picked up the steal followed by a pair of free throws from Trevor Hofer to seal the deal.
QUICK FACTS:
