Men's Basketball Drops Tight Contest To Nazareth, 85-82

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's basketball team couldn't pull out the win at home against Nazareth on Friday evening, falling to the Golden Flyers 85-82. The loss drops the Knights to 5-5 on the season and 1-1 in Empire 8 action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Knights came out strong offensively, jumping ahead 7-3 following a three from Colin Gentile. Geneseo conintued to keep the pace up early, with Trevor Hofer knocking down a shot from deep to go ahead 15-14 just under seven minutes into the action.
  • The Golden Flyers got hot as the first half went on, going ahead by as many as 19 points. Geneseo found a way to gain the momentum going into halftime though, going on a 14-6 run in the final four minutes.
  • The Knights continued to scrape and claw their way back into the game, eventually tying the score at 60-60 with 11 minutes left to play in the game. Trailing 73-72 with six minutes to go, Robert Pericolosi converted layups on back-to-back possessions to make it a three-point lead for the Knights.
  • Josh Garelle kept the lead for Geneseo with a layup to make it 80-78 with under three minutes on the clock, but Nazareth made the necessary shots down the stretch to close out a back-and-forth win, 85-82.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Pericolosi was dominant in the game for the Knights, posting a game-high 26 points and leading the Geneseo rebounding effort with seven.
  • Justin Yearwood and Hofer delivered good performances on offense with 15 and 14 points, respectively, while Garelle and Gentile each reached double-digits with 10 points.
  • Geneseo shot 54 percent from the field, including 43.8 percent from deep and 75 percent from the free throw line.
