Men's Basketball Knocks Off St. John Fisher

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's basketball team defeated St. John Fisher on Saturday afternoon in Schrader Gym by a score of 74-68. The win improves the Knights record to 6-5 overall and 2-1 in Empire 8 play, while the Cardinals fall to 5-7 and 1-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Both offenses struggled to find their rhythm early, with Jackson Casey putting Geneseo on the scoreboard four minutes in with a three from the top of the key. Casey followed it up a couple minutes later with another three, then a layup by Colin Gentile cut the deficit to 9-8.
  • Geneseo took control of the half behind an impressive sequence from Landon Brunken, who led Geneseo on a 11-0 run  with eight minutes to go by scoring or assisting on all four baskets by the Knights. Casey knocked down a pair of free throws late to help Geneseo keep the seven point lead heading to halftime.
  • The Knights came out of halftime strong, extending the lead to as many as 16 points just under seven minutes into the action behind a three from Trevor Hofer. The Cardinals continued to push back, eventually cutting the lead down to five points with four minutes to go.
  • Leading by four points with a minute and a half to go, Robert Pericolosi made a layup for Geneseo to help secure the 74-68 victory.
