Men's Basketball Defeats Elmira, 91-76

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's basketball team traveled to Elmira on Tuesday evening and came away with a 91-76 victory. The Knights have now won five of their last six games as they improve to 7-5 overall and 3-1 in Empire 8 action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Knights struggled to find their rhythm early, trailing 9-4, but a dunk from Justin Yearwood helped spark the offense as they went on a 16-2 run to go ahead 20-11. Landon Brunken capped off the run by knocking down a three off a pass from Trevor Hofer.
  • Geneseo led by as many as 16 points at 35-19, but the Soaring Eagles made a run to close out the half, cutting the deficit down to six points in the closing minutes. However, a layup from Jaiyden Jones at the buzzer helped the Knights flip the momentum back in their favor heading to halftime.
  • A layup from Colin Gentile helped Geneseo quickly extend the lead to 17 within the first four minutes of the second half, but once again Elmira started to slowly climb back into the game. The Soaring Eagles were able to cut the lead down to eight points around the halfway mark of the second half.
  • The Knights kept the pressure on Elmira down the stretch, continuing to attack offensively as they posted 90+ points for the second time this season en route to the 91-76 victory.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Josh Garelle had a dominant game for the Knights, posting a double-double with 23 points and 14 rebounds.
  • Trevor Hofer was efficient on the offensive end, tallying 23 points on 9-11 shooting from the field and 2-2 from three.
  • Robert Pericolosi tallied five steals on the defensive end, while the Knights held Elmira to 39 percent shooting from the field while going 54 percent themselves.
