GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's basketball team competed against the Sage Gators on Saturday afternoon and came up short in a tough 65-64 loss. The Knights now move to 14-5 overall on the season and 8-2 in conference play.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The Knights had a solid opening quarter, starting off with Sofia Vasselman nailing a three-pointer with eight seconds in. Geneseo kept a consistent lead against Sage throughout the rest of the quarter and took a 20-14 advantage into the second quarter.
• The Knights remained in command during the second quarter, although the Gators worked tirelessly to close the gap. Audrey Hintz made a layup with 14 seconds left to give Geneseo a 30-26 lead, but Sage knocked down a three with one second remaining. Geneseo headed into the break holding a narrow 30-29 edge.
• Both sides were neck–and-neck for the beginning of the third quarter. The Knights built a seven-point lead, going up 46-39 with four and half minutes left in the quarter, and held strong to carry a 50-45 advantage into the fourth.
• The final quarter was a nail-biter. With the Knights leading 63-57, the Gators hit back-to-back threes to tie the game at 63 with a minute and a half remaining. Sage then pulled ahead to take a 65-63 lead. Even though the Knights made a free throw to close the gap to one, the Gators held firm for a 65-64 victory over Geneseo.

QUICK FACTS:

• Hintz powered the team with 13 points, including eight rebounds (four offensive, four defensive).
• Eva Elliot, Sofia Vasselman, and Kristin Suydam chipped in 10 points apiece.
