GENESEO, NY: The SUNY Geneseo women's basketball team took on Hartwick in a Friday night conference match-up, cruising to a dominant 68-35 victory. With the win, the Knights now sit at 14-4 overall and 8-1 in Empire 8 play.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- It was a slow start for both sides until the Hawks got on the board with a pair of free throws. The Knights answered right back with a jumper from Audrey Hintz. Geneseo was able to snag the lead at the end of the quarter, with Hintz converting a layup in the final minute off a pass from Sofia Vasselman.
- Geneseo came alive offensively in the second quarter, scoring 22 points while the Hawks managed just seven. Kathleen Birmingham opened the quarter strong for Geneseo with back-to-back jumpers in the paint, followed by a layup from Ellie Clearwater to give the Knights a 16-9 lead. Geneseo kept its momentum rolling to take a 32-16 advantage into halftime.
- The Knights kept their foot on the gas in the third quarter. Geneseo went 3-for-5 from long range, with Vasselman knocking down two triples and Clearwater adding one. The Hawks put up 13 points, but the Knights held firm with a commanding 50-29 lead going into the fourth quarter.
- The Knights stayed hot offensively in the final minutes and pulled away with a decisive 68-35 victory.
