Men's Basketball Falls Short Against Hamilton, 74-73

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's basketball team couldn't pull out a win in Schrader Gym on Tuesday evening, falling 74-73 on a last second shot by Hamilton. Geneseo moves to 8-7 overall on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Jackson Casey kicked off the game with a three, then a few minutes later Robert Pericolosi made a tough layup to keep the lead at 10-7. The Continentals responded with an 11-2 run, taking an 18-12 advantage with 11 minutes to go in the first half.
  • The Knights battled back as the half went on, going on a 17-3 powered by a pair of three's from Ethan Meisel to push their lead to 29-21. Hamilton once again found a way to close the gap, and found a way to enter halftime with a three-point deficit at 38-35.
  • Geneseo maintained their lead early in the second half, with a big three from Trevor Hofer and a couple tough baskets from Pericolosi and Josh Garelle. Hofer continued to come up clutch for the Knights, scoring nine-straight points for the Knights after the score was 51-49. Hofer's offensive effort extended the lead to nine points at 60-51.
  • With three minutes to go in the game, Casey knocked down an acrobatic three as the shot clock expired to make it an eight-point advantage for Geneseo. Unfortunately, the Continentals were able to convert contested shots down the stretch to get back in the game, and ultimately banked in a last second jump shot to escape with the one-point win.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Hofer led the scoring with 17 points on 4-5 shooting from three, while Pericolosi chipped in 16 on 7-10 shooting from the field.
  • Pericolosi filled the stat sheet with a game-high seven assists, and six rebounds to tie Garelle for the team-high.
  • Geneseo went shot over 50 percent from three in the game, going 8-15.
