Wolter's Two Goals Lead Hockey To 4-3 Win Over Salve Regina

TAMPA, FL: The No.9 SUNY Geneseo Men's hockey team defeated the Salve Regina Seahawks this evening 4-3 at the Tampa College Hockey Invitational. Sterling Wolters netted the game-winner and was named Geneseo's Player of the Game. This win puts the Knights at 9-3-1 overall and remains at 5-1-0 on conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The game remained scoreless through the first despite Geneseo putting 12 shots on net. Cameron Ricotta and Nathan Stachowiack both had great opportunities in front of the goal but were denied by the Seahawk's goalie.
  • Alex Dameski put the Knights on the board 12 minutes into the second period. Dameski picked up the rebound from Danny Bagnole's shot to take the 1-0 lead. Dakota Zarudny on the second assist.
  • The Knights extended their lead with Nathan Stachowiack's first goal of the season at 7:50. Marcus Torgner kept the puck in the zone, passing to Payne Gatewood, who put a shot on net. Stackowiak made the play in front of the net, picking up the rebound to make it 2-0 heading into the third.
  • Salve Regina answered back with three goals of their own to open the third period. Sterling Wolters tied the game with a picturesque slapshot with 8:38 to play. Filip Wiberg and Nicholas Kovacs on the assist.
  • Wolters sealed the deal with another top shelf snipe off a perfect centering pass from Dameski. The Knights held strong through the remaining minutes, winning 4-3 over the Salve Regina Seahawks.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Sterling Wolters led the team with two goals this evening, marking a season and career high for Wolters.
  • Jacob Torgner tallied his sixth win in goal, making 29 saves against the Seahawks.
  • Alex Dameski now leads the team with nine goals this season, scoring five in the last four games.
