UTICA, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's basketball team traveled to Utica on Saturday afternoon and earned a 64-27 victory over the Pioneers. The win improves the Knights to 12-3 overall and 6-0 in Empire 8 action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The Knights came out hot, with Grace Galgano and Sofia Vasselman knocking down early three pointers to put Geneseo ahead 8-0. Utica would go on to cut the deficit down to five points later in the quarter, but a three from Ellie Clearwater and a buzzer beater layup by Audrey Hintz helped to make it an eight-point lead going into the second.
• After allowing 14 points in the first quarter, Geneseo's defense came alive in the second. Utica would convert a three on their opening possession, then the Knights would hold them scoreless for the final nine and a half minutes. Hintz once again knocked down a late shot to make it a 31-17 lead at half.
• The Geneseo defense would continue to put the pressure on Utica, holding them to just 10 points in the second half as they cruised to the 64-27 victory.

QUICK FACTS:

• Galgano led the offensive effort with 16 points, while Hintz chipped in 14 with seven rebounds.
• Vasselman and Suydam each added nine points, while Suydam added a team-high nine rebounds.
• The Knights held Utica to just 17 percent shooting from the field and 16 percent from three.
