GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's basketball team improved to 4-0 in Empire 8 action on Tuesday evening, traveling to Elmira and earning a 56-40 victory. The win also improves the Knights to 10-3 on the season, while the Soaring Eagles fall to 7-6 and 2-2 in the conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The first quarter was closely contested, with the score being tied three times including with under two minutes to go in the quarter after a three-point shot by Elmira. Maggie McGrane gave Geneseo the lead with under a minute left to play by knocking down a jumping, making it 15-13 heading to the second quarter.
  • The Soaring Eagles quickly jumped ahead by three points in the second, but the Knights responded with a 12-3 scoring run to make it a six-point lead at 27-21. Elmira battled back as the half came to a close, converting a layup with six seconds left to cut the lead down to two points.
  • The Knights took control of the game in the third quarter, with Grace Galgano and Sofia Vasselman knocking down a pair of three's early to help extend the lead to 11 points. Offensive rebound put-backs by Audrey Hintz and Ellie Clearwater in the closing minutes helped Geneseo extend the lead to 13 points by the end of the quarter.
