GENESEO, N.Y. - The No. 21 SUNY Geneseo field hockey team remained unbeaten to start the season, knocking off Skidmore at College Stadium by a score of 2-0. The Knights move to 4-0 on the season, while the Thoroughbreds fall to 2-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Ella Greico got the scoring started for the Knights in the first quarter, scoring off of a penalty corner. Kyra Giannelli took the corner for the Knights, and the ball found its way to Ava Harman who passed it to Greico in front of the goal for the first score of the game.
- Skidmore put the pressure on Geneseo's defense in the second quarter, tallying four shots compared to two from the Knights, but Geneseo wouldn't let them get the equalizer and the two teams entered halftime with the score at 1-0.
- The Knights tallied five shots on goal in the third quarter while shutting out the Thoroughbreds, but couldn't extend the lead before heading to the final 15 minutes.
- Shannon Cunningham went on to score the insurance goal for the Knights, converting on a penalty stroke in the 53rd minute to help seal the 2-0 victory.
QUICK FACTS:
- Greico netted her team-high fifth goal of the season, moving her season total on points to 11. Cunningham recorded her second goal of the season.
- Bridget Schafer secured her fourth win of the season playing all 60 minutes in goal, while notching four saves.
- The Knights are now 4-0 to begin the season for the second-straight year.

Geneseo will take on a top-25 matchup next week, traveling to No. 20 Ithaca on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 1 p.m.
