Women's Soccer Knocks Off Sage, 3-0

Albany, N.Y. – The SUNY Geneseo women's soccer team hit the road this afternoon to face off against the Russell Sage College Gators. The Knights were able to get their first win of the season in a dominant 3-0 performance, and they now move to 1-4-3 on the season and 1-1-1 in Empire 8 action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Riley Griffin had a header early in the game that narrowly missed the goal, bouncing off the post. Two minutes after, Grace Engle was able to find the back of the net, putting the Knights up 1-0 just 25 minutes into the game.
  • Geneseo kept the pressure on, landing multiple shots on goal, all the way into the second half. Eventually, in the 76th minute Ella Yartym scored off a great pass by Samantha DeNisco, making the score 2-0.
  • Just six minutes after Yartym's goal, Kirsten Shepherd scored Geneseo's third off an assist by Claire Woolingham. The Knights were able to keep their pressure up all game and didn't allow the Gators to get any offensive going, resulting in their first win of the season.
