Volleyball Stumbles Against Fredonia and Penn State Behrend

BUFFALO, NY: The SUNY Geneseo Women's Volleyball team took on Fredonia and Penn State Behrend on Saturday afternoon in Buffalo. The Knights came up short in both matches, falling 3-2 to Fredonia and 3-0 to Penn State Behrend. Geneseo now moves to a 6-7 overall record. 

GENESEO VS FREDONIA: 

  • The first set was a hard-fought battle, with the lead shifting back and forth between the teams. Fredonia pulled away late to secure a 25-22 victory over Geneseo. Kate Barba led the Knights' offense with six kills. 

  • Geneseo answered back in the second set, surging ahead to claim a 25-17 win over the Blue Devils. Carolyn Mack and Zooey Gagnier each contributed two service aces in the effort. 

  • Fredonia countered with a strong third set performance. Geneseo was unable to rally, falling 25-15.  

  • The Knights regained control for the duration of the fourth set, securing a 25-17 win over Fredonia. Sophie Hunter tallied five kills in the set, while Barba chipped in with four. 

  • With the match being tied at two sets apiece, the teams entered a decisive fifth set. With the score even at 13, the Blue Devils took advantage of two attacking errors by Geneseo to pull out a narrow 15-13 win. 

GENESEO VS PENN STATE BEHREND: 

  • Both teams started off strong in the opening set, but Penn State Behrend cruised ahead midway through to take a 25-17 win over the Knights.  

  • The Lions carried their momentum into the second set, quickly building an early 10-2 lead. Geneseo's efforts to respond came up short, falling 25-15. Hunter contributed three kills in the frame. 

  • In the third set, the Knights struggled to maintain their rhythm offensively down the stretch. With the score tied at 11, the Lions widened the gap with a seven-point run to take an 18-11 lead. Geneseo couldn't mount a comeback, ultimately dropping the set 25-14.  

QUICK FACTS: 

  • Zooey Gagnier led the defensive effort with 35 digs between both matches, raising her season total to 219. 

  • Ayla Pas'cal recorded a team-high four blocks against Fredonia.

The Knights have their first home game on Tuesday, September 23rd against RIT at 6 P.M.
