GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's soccer team cruised past Allegheny, 3-1, in their home opener on Wednesday afternoon. The Knights performance places them at 2-3-0 overall as they head into conference play this weekend.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Knights took the early lead, with Jace DiPalo scoring at the four-minute mark off a well-placed free kick from Michael Ruggiero.
- Allegheny answered back quick with one of their own, but the Knights turned up the heat, with Charlie Sorenson and Dylan Thody putting great shots on net before halftime. Unfortunately, Geneseo couldn't break the tie before halftime.
- Geneseo came out strong in the second, taking a 2-1 lead at 54:03. Sorensen fed Thody in the middle of the field, going far post to score the team's second goal.
- Eric Famularo sealed the deal at 76:30, finding the ball on the backside of the net off a corner kick from Owen Burke. The Knights held strong throughout the final minutes, tallying their second win of the season.
QUICK FACTS:
- Dylan Thody leads the team with 10 points this season, tallying four goals and two assists.
- Geneseo out shot the Gators 15-3, with four coming from DiPalo.
- Max Crothall earned the win in goal, his second of the season.
