Volleyball Drops A Pair In Day Two Of Oneonta Invite

ONEONTA, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo's women volleyball team faced off against Oneonta and Vassar College in a pair of matches on Saturday, August 30th at Oneonta, N.Y. The Knights were defeated in both contests, falling 3-0 to Oneonta and 3-0 to Vassar.
 
Geneseo vs Oneonta:
  • In the opening set, Oneonta came out strong, quickly taking a 16-5 lead over Geneseo. Despite the Knights' best efforts to rally, they weren't able to make a comeback. Peyton Cole and Ayla Pas'cal each recorded two kills to help provide an offensive spark.
  • The Knights were able to put together a tough battle in the second set, but Oneonta pulled ahead to secure a 25-19 win over the Knights. Zooey Gagnier chipped in with two service aces, while Sydney Leigh-Manuell added a pair of kills. 
  • In the third set, Oneonta carried their momentum forward as Geneseo struggled to find their rhythm, falling 25-11. The Knights were limited to just four kills, though Gagnier added another service ace in the effort.
Geneseo vs Vassar:
  • The lead shifted back-and-forth throughout a competitive first set, but Vassar was able to pull ahead to secure a 25-20 win over the Knights. Sophie Hunter ignited Geneseo's offense with four kills in the opening frame.
  • The Knights stayed within striking distance for the entire second set, trailing by only a few points. While Geneseo was able to capitalize on some Vassar errors, they ultimately came up short, falling 25-21.
  • The Knights showed signs of comeback in the third set but couldn't stay consistent, as Vassar picked up a 25-15 victory. Leigh-Manuell delivered consecutive kills, adding another later in the set.
Quick Facts:
  • Gagnier led the team with 14 digs against Oneonta, as McKenna Callari recorded 8 against Vassar.
  • Carolyn Mack tallied 17 assists on the day.
What's Next?
The Knights will travel to Skidmore next weekend for three matches, taking on the Thoroughbreds, Williams, and Johnson and Wales.
