Greico's Hat Trick Propels Field Hockey Past Kenyon, 5-1

GENESEO, N.Y. - The No. 21 SUNY Geneseo field hockey team defeated Kenyon, 5-1, on Saturday afternoon at College Stadium. Ella Greico scored three goals and assisted on another to power the Knights to their second win in as many days.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Geneseo was dominating the action early on, but couldn't break through the Kenyon defense after out-shooting them 9-1 to open up the first quarter. However, with under a minute to play the Knights offensive pressure finally paid off as they earned a penalty stroke, which Greico was able to convert for the 1-0 lead.
  • Halfway through the third quarter, Geneseo once again earned a penalty stroke, and Greico delivered for the second time to make it a 2-0 advantage heading to halftime.
  • Late in the third quarter, the Owls brought the game back to within one goal, but Sam Lewis quickly put the Knights back ahead by two with a goal off a pass from Greico.
  • Greico completed her hat trick a couple minutes later to push the score to 4-1, and then Emma Landers finished off the scoring for the day with her first goal of the season.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Greico recorded the second hat trick of her career, with the previous coming last season against Skidmore.
  • With goals from Lewis and Landers, Geneseo has now had five different goal scorers through the first two games of the season.
  • Bridget Schafer recorded her second win of the year, playing all 60 minutes in goal and recording two saves.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Knights will head to William Smith on Wednesday, Sep. 3 at 6 p.m.
